OpenVPN Setup

In order to set up VPN clients, you will need to log in to the OpenVPN adminstration area as the administrator. The credentials for access will be included in your access credentials document, which is either a PDF or a Word Doc.

Step 1

Go to the URL that is in your access credentials document for accessing the OpenVPN administration web page. It will look similar to this:

   https://openvpn.CLIENTNAME.vmracks.com:943/admin

The URL must end in /admin. If it does not end in /admin, review your access credentials document or contact support to clarify.

Step 2

Once logged in as the OpenVPN administrator, click on "User Permissions" menu item located along the left side. You will then see a screen that includes the VPN Client users. Create a new user by entering in a new user name and then click on "Show".

Step 3

After you click on Show, a new dialogue appears. Fill in the password for the new VPN client and check the box "all server-side private subnets".

Step 4

Finally, click on the "Update Running Server", to restart OpenVPN.

Step 5

Download the OpenVPN Client Application by pointing your web browser to the URL that will be similar to this one (consult your access credentials document):

    https://openvpn.CLIENTNAME.vmracks.com:943

Note that this login looks similar to the admin login, but they are different; this log in screen is for the clients to use in order to download their VPN client application. Use the client username to log into this page. Do not use the admin credentials to login.

Step 6

Download the appropriate Client Software to your laptop or desktop computer. You can choose from Windows, Mac, and Linux.
