New - VM Racks Scripts!
VM Racks is now pleased to start offering server administration scripts for your use. Our archive will be expanding shortly, as of right now we have made available a few perl scripts for your use.
We would like to draw your attention to our vmDisplayMAC.pl script. When virtualizing, as in physical networking, it is important to ensure that all of your hosts have unique MAC addresses. If you were to duplicate a MAC address, it would certainly interfere with that particular VM's ability to integrate into the network, and it may even affect the rest of your network. Sometimes MAC addresses are duplicated during a VM clone procedure. Sometimes, using Virtual Center can cause a duplicate VM MAC address to be created.
This script goes through your VMs and makes certain that no duplicate MAC addresses are detected.

However, virtualization isn't a silver bullet that can solve all of IT's woes -- nor is it suited for all companies. There are circumstances when ESX virtualization may not be ideal for you.
